Dr. Carey Ruiz specializes in Race, Class, and Gender inequality and holds a graduate certificate in Gender and Women’s Studies. She received her PhD from the University of Kentucky in 2012 and has worked at Asbury University and Georgetown College, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Campbellsville University. Her current research is based on the way in which perceptions and stereotypes are influenced by social structure and how those perceptions motivate people into action. She is also a co-investigator on a research project in human trafficking. In addition to her coursework, Carey has participated in Asbury College’s faith and culture series, was a faculty advisor for an anti-trafficking student group, and became actively involved with issues concerning LGBTQ Christians in a conservative Christian environment.
